What is Keyless Access with Push-Button Start?

January 12th, 2016 by

The technology in new vehicles has advanced so much in such a short amount of time and we’re constantly amazed at the type of features and equipment we see. Volkswagen models are especially impressive, with the 2016 model lineup bringing us great technology like state-of-the-art smartphone connectivity and cutting-edge driver assistance systems. We’re going to take a look at yet another new technology feature found on many new VW models: keyless access with push-button start. With this feature, driving is more convenient than ever. You’ll never worry about locking your keys in the car again.

So, what is keyless access with push-button start? Essentially, it’s basically what it says. The “key” isn’t really a key at all, but rather has a chip that will allow the vehicle to sense when it’s within range to unlock and lock the car, as well as start the engine. This means you just have to have the key on you and you’ll be able to do everything you need to without fumbling to find it in your purse or pocket. Keyless access with push-button start is a great addition to new cars and allows for an easy-going driving experience.

How Does the VW Keyless Access System Work?

If you use keyless access with push button start, you’ll need to have the key within the radius for the system to sense that it’s there. Then you can easily open the door by sliding your hand into the door handle and waiting a moment for it to unlock.

Locking the car with the keyless access system is as easy as shutting the door and pushing the dimple on the door handle. If you manage to leave the “key” in the car, the doors will not lock and will give you the opportunity to remove it before locking it and walking away. Starting the car is as easy as pressing on the break and pushing the “start/stop” button. It’s incredibly easy to use and makes driving and getting in and out of your car a breeze.

Keyless access with push-button start can be found on select trim levels of the majority of new VW models, like the 2016 Passat, 2016 Golf GTI, and 2016 Tiguan.
